It's Okay

Ever had one of those days where the stress and concerns of life just pile on. You just start to reevaluate all the decisions you've made and you start to feel real low. Well today is one of those days for me. I didn't get a good nights sleep and when I woke up I heard my mom talking on the phone and she said something that made me sad. My day has been downhill from there. Its not necessarily that other bad things happened its more so of me beating myself up on every wrong decision I've made and how its affected the people around me.

I don't have these days very often because I try to remain positive and make the most of everyday, but sometimes you can't help it. Sometimes you just need to feel sad. Sometimes you need to just cry and let out the emotions that you kept bottled up inside. Times like this I do what I do best and that is pray. I don't pray to a specific god or anything like that I just pray in general. I ask for guidance, strength, and hope that everything turns out okay. Most of the times it does and the problems that I built up in my head turn out to be not so bad.

I'm sure I'm not the only one out there who feels like this. We live in a world where you have so many responsibilities at such an young age and it only gets worse as you get older. If I've learned anything from my moments of weakness it's that it's OKAY. I was on twitter this afternoon and came across a quote that completely changed my mood.

"It’s OK to cry, it’s OK to be afraid, it’s OK to be weak, its OK to be vulnerable, it’s OK to be human."

It's just a couple of words, but the meaning behind the words is significant. It's okay to cry, to be afraid, to be weak, and to be vulnerable because that is what makes us human. Humans have faults we aren't robots we make mistakes. It's what we do with those mistakes that makes us who we are. How can you truly enjoy the good if you've never experienced the bad? It's like when you get a cold and you can't breathe properly, your head hurts, you're coughing and in that moment of weakness you promise yourself that if you beat this sickness you won't take something as simple as breathing through your nose for granted.

Next time you feel glum or just scared understand that it's okay. Believe that you can overcome it and understand that no matter what there is always hope. Hope for a better tomorrow. One bad day doesn't mean a bad life.

Santa Hat Nails

This one of my favorite holiday nail art designs. It's extremely easy and super cute. The best thing is that it doesn't take that long. It only took me about 5 minutes. The things you will need for this design are: a base coat, clear tape, red and white nail polish, bobby pin, and a top coat.

The first step like always is apply a base. Next you are going to place the tape on your nails so you form a triangle. Make sure you leave some room on the top. Follow the picture below.

Next step is to paint the triangle red. Wait about a minute or so before you take off the tape.

Now take the white nail polish and use the brush to make the bottom of the hat. You could use the brush to make the little ball at the top of your hat, but I prefer the bobby pin. Place a drop or couple on a piece of paper and use the bobby pin to make little fluffy ball on top. Add a top coat and you are finished.

Happy Holidays!!!

Happiness

In the past year I've learned to not let the little things bother me. There is absolutely no point in getting all worked up over things you can't control. I've learned to let things go and honestly I've never been happier. A couple weeks ago I was on the phone with my cousin during his lunch break at work. He drove over to some fast food place to get lunch and when he got back to work someone parked in the place where his car previously was. Now to me this seems likes not a big deal, just park somewhere else, but that was not the case with my cousin. He started swearing and complaining and using so much energy getting mad over something he had no control over. Is it really a big deal to park somewhere else? So what you have to take 15 more steps to get to the office is it worth getting mad over and ruining your whole day?

Perspective is everything. Everyone grows up differently and they experience different things. The way I stay in focus on what is important is by realizing what I have. Not for one second do I take what I have for granted. I realize that there are people out there who struggle to get a drink of water when for me I can go into the kitchen and drink it as much and as often as I want. There are kids who sleep outside in cold on the dirt because they don't have a roof over their head. I on the other hand not only have a roof but my own room with a comfy bed.

Gratitude, a feeling of appreciation or thanks. One day I was going to the mall with my cousin and she was driving. In a span of less than 15 minutes she complained so many times that it was hard to keep track. It's too cold outside, the stupid light needs to change already, omg can this guy drive any slower, there are no close parking spots open, this mall is so crowded. Why complain about things you can't control and with things you can control change it. You can't change the weather, but you can change the way you dress. If the car in front of you is driving too slow then change lanes. Being grateful and counting your blessings can increase your happiness levels significantly. I'm not saying become completely optimistic because although the glass may be half full it is also half empty. Stop focusing on the negative and acknowledge the good things that are in your life.

If this past year has taught us anything it is that life is short. You're not guaranteed a tomorrow so why waste today being sad and angry over things that don't matter. Appreciate the little things in life.

I challenge you to pick a day and start counting the number of times you complain, criticize, or gossip about something. I promise you that number will shock you.

"To say we feel grateful is not to say that everything in our lives is necessarily great. It just means we are aware of our blessings.”- Dr. Robert Emmons

Candy Cane Nails

What is your favorite Christmas sweet? Mine is easily the candy cane. So in this post I'm going to show you how to create candy cane nails. This design is extremely festive for the holiday's, but its also super easy. All you are going to need is a red and white polish along with clear tape and scissors. You are also going to need a base and top coat polish.

The first step is going to be applying a base coat because from my experience red polish stains your nails so this will help protect them. Next you are going to paint your nails red. I used NYC's Madison Avenue and I only needed to do one coat.

The next step is to take some tape and cut it into strips of various width. Now you have to very PATIENT and make sure the red is COMPLETELY DRY. I painted the red nail polish and then went out to dinner with my family so it was able to dry for a couple hours. After you're absolutely positive the red is dry, place the strips on your nails in a diagonal like the picture below.

Once the strips are on securely take the white nail polish and paint over it. I didn't realize this till after, but I was completely out of my better white polish so I had to use my older one which is drying out. One to two coats is all you will need, just make sure the red isn't showing through. Wait about a minute or two and the gently peel off the tape. Take a cotton swab and clean up the mess around the nails. Add a top coat and your are finish. (Due to the fact that my white polish was drying out the tape didn't come off as smoothly as it should have, but they still look amazing)

Stay tuned for more festive nails.

Garland Nails

It's that time of the year again where the tree lights up your whole house and the snow is covering the ground outside. My favorite thing about the holidays is being able to decorate my nails all Christmasy. The design I decided to go with for the first week of December is festive garland or it also looks like Christmas lights.

The first step is to start with a base coat this helps protect your nails from the polish. Then you want to paint your nails white. I had to do two coats because one was too streaky. I guess you can use any color you want, but I'm going to give you the color combination that I think looks the best. (Don't worry about the mess because you can clean that up with a cotton swab later)

Wait for your nails to dry completely. I know waiting is the absolute worst, but fight through the urge. The next step is to take gold nail polish make sure it's the stripper and not the regular brush. You are going to make three curved lines, make sure they are connected, like the picture below.

The next step is to decorate the garland. I don't have a dotting tool so I use the next best thing a bobby pin. The decorations are going to be green and red, because well Christmas. Alternating colors in my opinion looks the best but feel free to use whatever colors you like. Open the bobby pin up dip it into the nail polish and begin dotting. The last and final step is a top coat.

Hope you guys like it. I'll post another festive design in a couple of days!
